Michael Kelley, Democratic candidate in Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District, has joined Bob Hackworth (FL-D), Roy Carter (NC-D) and John Tierney (MA-D) in ServeNext’s Congressional Pledge to Expand National Service.
Earning his undergraduate degree at Harvard University and graduate degree from the Internal Medicine and Pediatrics program at East Carolina University, Kelley knows the value of helping others very well.
By signing the pledge, Kelley promises to join the House National Service Congressional Caucus and support national service policy that encourages and provides opportunities for Americans to commit at least 4,000 hours to the service of others. Among other things, he also promises to support funding and expansion of AmeriCorps, the Peace Corps and Senior Corps.
“Our members would like to see other candidates, of both parties, show the same dedication to national service. This is one of the critical issues of our time,” said ServeNext Co-Director Zach Maurin.
ServeNext is a non-partisan, grassroots constituency of national service alumni and supporters that advocates for expansion of national service programs. The ServeNext Pledge to Expand National Service helps to ensure that AmeriCorps and other service programs continue to play an important role in addressing the country’s most critical challenges while renewing a spirit of citizenship and patriotism in America.
